I graduate my Master of Nursing (Nurse Educator track) program at the University of Washington Bothell in two months! This experience has pushed me academically, intellectually, and emotionally. Balancing my full time diabetes nursing job and my per diem administrator role with the nonprofit, while engaging in scholarly work and academic studies, all while attempting to keep some social life and physical exercise has been a whirlwind.
I'm glad that I decided to finally pursue an advanced degree (thank you Laura Hall for all the encouragement). A huge thank you to my professors, mentors, preceptor (the incredible Angel Mathis!), brilliant and supportive cohort, and friends and family for getting me through this stage in my life. The last two years I have grown as a nurse, educator, and scholar (and successfully so, says my 3.98 GPA):
UW Master of Nursing Curriculum (2023 - 2025)
BNURS 525 Healthcare Systems Leadership for Advanced Roles
BNURS 504 Disparity and Social Justice in Healthcare
BNURS 520 Translational Research I
BNURS 509 Ethics and Policy in Advanced Nursing Practice
BNURS 522 Translational Research II
BHLTH 513 Theories and Methods of Teaching and Learning
BNURS 506 Advanced Pathophysiology, Pharmacology and Health Assessment
BNURS 590 Introduction to Advanced Fieldwork and Capstone Project
BHLTH 511 Curriculum Development in Nursing Education
BNURS 591 Progression in Advanced Fieldwork and Capstone Project
BHLTH 515 Technology and Enhanced-Pedagogy
BHLTH 512 Evaluation of Academic and Clinical Performance in Nursing & Health Care
BNURS 592 Capstone Project
I'm almost done finalizing my Capstone Project. I am very excited to announce what I have completed so far and what more I will be working on post-graduation soon. I've been interviewing folks, researching, and spending hundreds of hours strategizing my Capstone Project over the last three years, including the largest push these last two quarters during my Fieldwork. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, I still want a social life: concerns, musicals, plays, and friend-time! This month alone I've seen Rubble Bucket, Alice by Heart at Cornish, Life of Pi, Kylie Minogue, and Mandy Patinkin live. Last month I saw the Bacon Strip drag show (tip your local drag queens!), The Last Five Years, and the Seattle Symphony. I'm filling my cup how I can.
Thanks for reading and for all your love and support. These have been incredibly painful and stressful months. I've been off social media since November, doing a disconnecting cleanse. I don't miss the doomscrolling. I want to stay connected with friends and family; I'm in the beginning phase of planning my graduation parties. Local folks in my circle, please be on the look out for a text/email with details soon. Take care.
